ACCOMMODATIONS

Booking on a budget isn't always easy. These websites (and apps) have made it possible for me.

Tip: Decide what you're going to do on your trip first, and then map it out. Then, book accommodations based on location and transport convenience.

AIRLINES

Every airline is different, and it's good to know what to expect before you pack your (checked-only for some, carry-on for others) bags.

Last flown: August 2017
Pro: The marketing material for this airline.
Con: For a 45-minute domestic flight in India, this was the smallest plane I've flown in. The carry-on storage was half the size of a normal plane, so I managed to stuff my normal-sized carry-on backpack under my legs without a flight attendant saying anything.

Last flown: August 2017
Pro: I felt very safe flying with them.
Con: For a 45-minute domestic flight in India, this was the most airport security I've ever dealt with. I had to argue with staff to take my (oversized for the flight) backpack as a carry-on, though the plane was average-sized.

Last flown: August 2017
Pro: Baseline prices.
Con: The 7kg carry-on limit is strictly enforced. Tip: Look online for airports at which they do not check. The seats were also small, and there was no food or entertainment aboard my 7-hour international flight.

Jet Airways

Pro: In-flight meal and entertainment for my 2.5-hour international flight. They wen't above and beyond to make sure I made my connecting flight.
Con: It is usually not the cheapest option in India, where the company is based out of.

Ryanair

Last flown: August 2017
Pro: Super low prices, many convenient flight times, and a wide range of airport options in Europe.
Con: They are the strictest company for luggage requirements that I've ever flown with. Get familiar with those requirements before flying with them. The bare minimum of in-flight services and cleanliness.

Vueling

Last flown: January 2017
Pro: Low prices and convenient flight times. Living in Barcelona, this Spanish airline was my favorite in Europe. Typically, they weren't stingy with luggage requirements and were enjoyable to fly with as a European low cost air carrier.
Con: Bare minimum of in-flight services.
